CERL Presents at Center for Civic Education’s Media Literacy and Public Policy Curriculum Institute

Annapolis, Md. – CERL Research Specialists, Dr. Patrick McSweeney and Jamie Joseph, participated in the first day of the Center for Civic Education’s Project Community: Engaging All Students in Media Literacy and Public Policy (MLPP) Summer Institute. McSweeney and Joseph used their session to familiarize educators with CERL and demystify the research process that supports the development and evaluation of the MLPP curriculum.
MLPP is built on Project Citizen, a hands-on, project-based learning program focused on civics and public policy. The MLPP institute provides professional learning opportunities for educators seeking to implement project communities in their classrooms.
Hosted by Amelia Bochain and Marcie Taylor-Thomas, the institute brought together passionate educators from Connecticut, D.C., Maryland, New York, and Virginia who are preparing to bring MLPP into their classrooms this upcoming school year.
Visiting these institutes is an important part of CERL’s work. CERL connects with educators and shows them how their dedication to professional learning is having a real impact on the students they serve.
